Mwene Wamwenda (Bigwala Song)

from Traditional Musical Instruments by #HeritageAlive compilation

/

about

Basoga families often caution their boys and girls to be careful before deciding to marry someone. The song is a caution that if one marries a bully, family members will not allow pleas for divorce. Members will respond by say, 'mwene wamwenda' (you willingly loved that person'. Mistreatment is not a ground for divorce. As a result, youths have to be cautious about the spouse they decide to marry. The song was played by Lugolole bigwala group.
